About the Juving Nepal Development Society
In 2006, a group of friends from Edmonton went on an adventure to Everest Base Camp. They met hardworking Nepali farmers who shared stories about their village, Juving-6 (also called Jubing-6), in Nepal's Dhankuta district. Despite facing challenges, the villagers dreamed of a better future for their children.
When the friends returned home, they wanted to help Juving-6. The people from Juving identified the need for a new school as their top priority. They started by paying a teacher's salary, but soon began raising funds for a new school. They organized events and asked for donations from friends and family to raise money.
With the support of Juving's leaders, they provided funding to build a modern school in 2011. When the new school could not accommodate the additional students who came to the new school, they provided funding for a second school building. The school complex, designed by a Nepali architect, survived a devastating earthquake in 2015. It now has five classrooms and an office-library. The friends didn't stop there. They also paid extra teachers and gave uniforms and backpacks to all the students. Children who could not afford to go to school due to family difficulties were given scholarships. Now, kids in Juving-6 can go to school up to grade five, and most attend regularly. Next, funds were raised to build a gathering space - a community centre - where large families can celebrate, the community can meet, and mobile medical and social services can provide service.
This partnership between the Edmonton friends and Juving shows how working together can make a big difference, no matter where you are in the world.

Our Vision
At the School in Juving, we see a vibrant community thriving through strong connections, empowerment, and self-sufficiency. The expanded school stands as a hub for education and opportunity.
We envision a Community Centre bustling with family and group activities, and providing essential services like healthcare. Our vision is illustrated by a lively scene where communication flows freely between the village and its surroundings.
Our vision isn't just about buildings; it's about people and their growth. We see pathways leading from Juving to various destinations, symbolizing the journey of education and empowerment. From children learning with backpacks filled with school supplies and clothing to adults making decisions together, we prioritize self-directed community development. Education is key in our vision. We value collaboration and diversity. Looking ahead, we aim for a self-sustaining community where our Society's role diminishes as the village thrives independently. Our goal is to SHARE a legacy of resilience, wellness, and knowledge. The Juving School and Community Centre will continue to be a beacon of positive change long into the future.
